A Conversation with author, Anne Cooper

How does one go about writing a deeply personal memoir? Mark Twain wrote, “Write about what you know,” but Grace Paley took that a step further, saying, “You really write from what you don’t know. You write from what you know, but you write into what you don’t know.”

About the event

On Wednesday, April 19th, the Village Lake Writers & Poets group will host author Anne Cooper in a discussion about writing a memoir.

Local writers and interested parties are invited to attend an informal conversation at The Iron Horse Coffee Shop, 220 S 1st St, in Rogers, from 6 – 8 pm.

Anne’s memoir, "Second Life, An Atheist’s Journey to Spirituality,” speaks to the difficult journey any of us face when we are confronted by tragedy.  Anne, an atheist, was an unlikely candidate for miracles, until they started happening to her.  Raised Catholic, she abandoned the family faith in her teens, and raised her three boys to simply be good people, despite her husband’s hidden alcoholism.  It all worked, until the veneer of her near-perfect life was shattered by tragic and violent death.

Anne thought she would never get past the grief.  And then the miracles started to happen.  Real miracles, events that seemed to transcend the limitations of time and space and flesh.  They led her to explore territory previously foreign to her, and the astounding lessons she learned and details in her book led her on a transformational journey to a second, better life.

More about Anne and her journey can be found at Second Life – An atheist’s journey to spirituality (secondlifebook.com).

Join us for an informal conversation at The Iron Horse Coffee Shop in Rogers, from 6-8 pm, on April 19th.  Books will be available for $15 (cash or check, please).
